Lawn dice can be used to play a variety of fun outdoor games. Here are some popular games that you can play using large dice in the yard:
1. Yard Yahtzee
A giant version of the classic Yahtzee game.
- **Objective**: Score the highest by rolling combinations (like three-of-a-kind, full house, etc.) over 13 rounds.
- **How to Play**: Players take turns rolling five dice, trying to get different combinations on a scorecard. You can roll the dice up to three times per turn, setting aside dice you want to keep. After your third roll, choose one of the combinations on your scorecard to score that round.
### 2. **Snake Eyes**
A fast-paced and simple game.
- **Objective**: Be the first to roll snake eyes (two 1s).
- **How to Play**: Players take turns rolling two dice. If a player rolls snake eyes, they win. You can add variations, like losing points for other combinations to keep the game more exciting.
### 3. **Beat That**
A competitive number-building game.
- **Objective**: Roll the highest possible number with two or more dice.
- **How to Play**: Players take turns rolling two (or more) dice. After each roll, the player arranges the dice to form the highest possible number (e.g., rolling a 3 and 5, you can make 53 or 35). The player with the highest number after all rounds wins.
### 4. **Lawn Farkle**
A giant version of the dice game Farkle.
- **Objective**: Be the first to score a certain number of points (e.g., 10,000) by rolling specific combinations.
- **How to Play**: Players take turns rolling six dice. Certain combinations (like three-of-a-kind, straights, etc.) score points. After each roll, a player can decide to keep their score or risk rolling again for more points. If you roll and don’t score any points, you "farkle" and lose that turn’s points.
### 5. **Pig**
A simple game based on risk and reward.
- **Objective**: Be the first to reach a set number of points (e.g., 100).
- **How to Play**: Players take turns rolling one die. On each turn, you can either "hold" and bank your points or roll again to try to earn more. However, if you roll a 1, you lose all points for that turn and pass the dice to the next player. The first player to reach the goal wins.
### 6. **Sevens**
A simple, fast-paced game.
- **Objective**: Roll combinations that add up to seven.
- **How to Play**: Players take turns rolling two dice. For each roll where the total adds up to seven, the player earns a point. The game continues until a player reaches a set number of points.
### 7. **Going to Boston**
A three-dice game focused on building the highest score.
- **Objective**: Score the highest by rolling the best three dice.
- **How to Play**: Players roll three dice and keep the highest roll. Then they roll the remaining two dice, keeping the higher roll. Finally, they roll the last die. The player’s score for that round is the total of all three dice. The player with the highest total after all rounds wins.
### 8. **Tenzi**
A fast-paced race to roll a specific combination.
- **Objective**: Be the first player to roll the same number on all of your dice.
- **How to Play**: Each player starts with a set of dice. Players race to roll all their dice until they get the same number on each die (e.g., all 6s). Whoever finishes first wins the round.
### 9. **Twenty-One**
A classic dice game of strategy.
- **Objective**: Reach exactly 21 points without going over.
- **How to Play**: Players take turns rolling one die at a time, adding up the numbers they roll. You can stop and keep your points at any time, but if you go over 21, you lose all the points for that round. The first player to hit exactly 21 wins.
### 10. **Lawn Dice Bowling**
A fun outdoor version of bowling.
- **Objective**: Knock down the most "pins" using lawn dice.
- **How to Play**: Set up pins (plastic bottles or cones) in a bowling formation, then roll the dice toward them. Each player gets two rolls per turn to knock down as many pins as possible. The player with the most pins down after a set number of turns wins.
These games can easily be adapted for different skill levels and group sizes, making them perfect for casual or competitive outdoor play!
